Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University started the preparation process of the 2027–2031 Strategic Plan with a comprehensive training session. In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner, Prof. Dr. Ali Murat Alparslan, who actively served in the previous three strategic plan periods, provided an informative training on the strategic planning process.

In the training, it was emphasized that the strategic plan is a roadmap that produces holistic and realistic answers to the university's questions “Where are we? – Where do we want to go? – How will we get there?” Fundamental stages such as situation analysis, stakeholder opinions, SWOT analysis, mission–vision framework, and the relationship between goals–objectives–performance indicators were discussed with examples.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Alparslan stated that the most critical element of an applicable and adoptable strategic plan is the correct structuring of the process, and made the following evaluations:

“We must make reasonable plans, develop reasonable systems, and train reasonable people. We should produce a strategic document that guides us in a certain direction by advancing with an optimization approach, not maximization. It is extremely valuable that this group will create a valuable document that will guide our university for the next five years; we must all adopt this plan together.”

Alparslan emphasized that success in strategic planning is possible not only with the quality of the content but also with the formation of the right working groups. He stated that the process should not be left to randomness, and that teams must progress in a hierarchical working chain structured according to competencies, transferring data and outputs to each other. He expressed that this structure would both increase the efficiency of the process and strengthen the institutional adoption of the resulting document.

At the end of the meeting, the general framework of the strategic plan preparation schedule was shared, and it was stated that all academic–administrative units would actively contribute to the process. MAKÜ aims to create a roadmap that is measurable, sustainable, and strengthens institutional identity in the new plan period.
