The Inter-University Chess Turkey Championship, organized under the hosting of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), has started. In the organization attended by many universities from across Turkey, athletes will make moves for five days to achieve ranking.
Approximately 290 athletes from 43 universities are participating in the championship held between March 10-14, 2026. Medals will be presented to the successful teams and athletes at the end of the tournament.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the MAKÜ Sports Facilities, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar expressed their satisfaction in hosting sports organizations as a university. Dalgar stated that the university aims to be an important center where sports and athletes meet, and said they are very pleased to host athletes from different universities.
Emphasizing that chess is a special branch where strategy, patience, and planning come to the forefront, Rector Dalgar expressed their curiosity about the strategies and moves that athletes will present in the tournament. Wishing success to all athletes, Rector Dalgar thanked the Turkish University Sports Federation, especially the federation managers and employees, for their contributions to the realization of the organization.
Touching on the importance of the cooperation between the university and the federation, Rector Dalgar stated that MAKÜ will continue to host sports organizations at the national level in the future.
After the opening speech, the championship officially started with the first move made by Rector Dalgar. Throughout the tournament, athletes will face challenging matches for the Turkey championship.
