Graduates of Zeliha Tolunay School of Applied Technology and Business Administration, operating under Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), came together at a meaningful event. The gathering, which took place with intense participation, created a strong platform that brought together the past and the future.
The program was attended by the school's founders Zeliha and Hikmet Tolunay, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, as well as university administration, academics, graduates, and students. The event, which began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, featured a speech by Rector Dalgar, who shared important memories about the establishment process of the school.
Rector Dalgar stated that he played an active role in the establishment of the school and emphasized that the applied education model is one of the pioneering examples in Turkey. He expressed that the system, which is based on students spending one term in the industry, being widespread by YÖK today shows the correctness of the steps taken at that time. Rector Dalgar noted that universities can no longer suffice with providing only theoretical knowledge and highlighted the importance of experience-based education and graduate-student interaction.
Rector Dalgar also conveyed that MAKÜ ranks high across Turkey in terms of graduate employment, stating that the applied education approach has a significant share in the university's success.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Zeliha Tolunay School of Applied Technology and Business Administration 2013 graduate Çanakkale 18 Mart University Lecturer Yiğit Akkoyun stated that university years are important not only academically but also in terms of personal development. Akkoyun expressed that the successes achieved by graduates in different sectors are a source of pride for the institution and emphasized the importance of strengthening the bond between graduates and students.
During the program, badges were presented to the graduates, and emotional moments were experienced. The event concluded with a slide show reviving memories from past years, a theater play titled “Bir Taht Meselesi” performed by students, and a concert by the music group “Karmatel.”
The graduates' meeting was evaluated by participants as both a nostalgic and inspiring organization.
