Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), in line with its internationalization vision, participated in the Turkey Universities Promotion Fair held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on April 16, 2026, continuing its promotional and cooperation activities in the field of higher education. The fair, organized by EKET Fuarcılık, aimed to increase the international visibility of Turkish higher education institutions and lay the groundwork for new academic collaborations. MAKÜ was represented at the fair by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy, Rector Advisor Prof. Dr. Dursun Köse, and International Relations Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Gürkan Dilek. The university delegation introduced the academic capacity of the university to visitors and held meetings for potential collaborations during the fair.
Within the framework of the Uzbekistan program, the MAKÜ delegation visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, with which our university has a bilateral cooperation (MoU) agreement. During the visit, evaluations were made with the delegation consisting of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Akram Umarov, Director of the International Academic Cooperation Office Gavkhar Mirkhalilova, and Head of the European and Turkish Languages Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mamatkasimova Vasila Akramdjanovna, regarding the development of cooperation areas between the two universities and the implementation of new joint projects. It was decided to carry out the summer school program, which has been conducted between the two institutions since 2024, this summer as well.
The MAKÜ delegation continued its Uzbekistan contacts with meetings with the delegation consisting of Kimyo Xalqaro Universitesi (KIUT, Kimyo International University in Tashkent) Rector Prof. Dr. Akmal Allakuliev Baltayevich, Director of the International Integration and Transformation Department Shokhjahon Elmurodov, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department Akmal Rustamov, Senior Project Manager of the International Cooperation Department and Erasmus+ Coordinator Farkhad Niyazov, and International Relations Unit Specialist Khurshidabonu Muminova. In the meetings, an agreement was reached to develop joint projects in various fields, especially in education, research, and academic exchange programs between the two universities, and a bilateral cooperation agreement (MoU) was signed between the two universities.
The activities carried out in Uzbekistan are considered an important step towards strengthening our university's academic network in the Turkic Republics and increasing the number of international students in line with our internationalization strategy.
