Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar provided information about the studies conducted in line with education-teaching policies, research-development activities, and the mission of social contribution. Dalgar said, “In this meeting with our department heads, we want to share the observations and experiences we have gained from the field and create a common vision for the future.”
Rector Dalgar emphasized that Mehmet Akif Ersoy University makes a difference in higher education with its innovative practices, stating, “It is a source of pride for us that the practices we started years ago are now being emulated by other universities and brought to the agenda in the Higher Education system. According to the data from the Presidential Human Resources Office, we rank 22nd in Turkey in terms of the employment rate of our graduates in their respective fields.”
“The 6+2 Applied Education Model Brought Success”
Touching on the applied education model, Rector Dalgar stated that the 6+2 system in faculties and the 3+1 system in vocational schools are successfully maintained. “Thanks to this model, our students gain work experience before graduating and establish direct contact with the sector. This contributes to our students' careers and allows us to train graduates who meet the expectations of the business world.” he said.
“Do Not Let Your Diploma Limit You”
Rector Dalgar emphasized that with the Micro Qualifications Program implemented for the first time in Turkey at MAKÜ, they allow students to continuously develop themselves even after graduation. “It is no longer possible to progress with a single diploma for a lifetime. With micro qualifications, our students develop their digital skills and gain competencies in different fields.” he said.
“Digital Transformation and Accreditation Are Our Priority Areas”
Rector Dalgar also touched on MAKÜ’s digital transformation process, stating that they have gathered academic, administrative, and student services on a single platform with the MAKÜ+ application. “It is of great importance for our department heads to disseminate this system in faculties. Thus, our students experience a more effective and accessible university experience in every area.” he said.
Stating that accreditation studies are also among the priority issues, Rector Dalgar said, “As a university, we have received full accreditation for 5 years. Now we have initiated department accreditation processes in all our faculties. This will both increase the quality of our programs and enhance the national and international value of our diplomas.”
“We Are on the Path to Becoming a Respected University Internationally”
Rector Dalgar stated that MAKÜ has achieved significant successes in world university rankings, “We are 6th in Turkey in social sciences and 15-16th in other fields. In some categories, we are among the top 500 and 1000 universities in the world. However, beyond numerical successes, we aim to progress without compromising the quality of education.” he said.
“Our Goal Is to Train Responsible and Competent Graduates”
Emphasizing that one of the main goals of the university is to train students with a sense of responsibility towards society and their professions, Rector Dalgar said, “We must teach our students not to store information but to learn. It is our common duty to develop their experiential learning skills and ensure they grow as individuals who contribute to society.”
In the second part of the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar was accompanied by Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy and Prof. Dr. Ömer Tekşen. The participants answered the questions of the department heads, listened to their suggestions, and made evaluations regarding the future of the university.
