A meaningful event that brought together culture and literature enthusiasts was held in Burdur. A talk titled “Love of Books and Passion for Collecting” was organized by the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Application and Research Center operating under Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ).
The event was moderated by Dr. Lecturer İbrahim Öztürkçü, and the speakers included Mehmet Ruyan Soydan, a Member of the Advisory Board of the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Application and Research Center and Collector, and Author Eraslan Güzel. In the program, which attracted great interest from academics, students, and book lovers, the effects of the love for books on personal development and the transformation of the culture of collecting from past to present were discussed.
In the talk, Eraslan Güzel emphasized that books are not only a source of information but also an important companion that enriches a person's world of thought. Güzel stated that the habit of collecting books could gradually turn into conscious collecting and highlighted the great importance of preserving rare works in terms of cultural heritage.
Mehmet Ruyan Soydan pointed out that the passion for collecting is a process that requires patience, research, and discipline. Sharing examples from his own experiences, Ruyan Soydan expressed that forming a collection carries not only material but also spiritual value, advising young people to take an interest in this field.
Throughout the program, participants had the opportunity to ask questions they were curious about regarding the intricacies of book collecting, the culture of second-hand bookstores, and the processes of tracking rare works. The talk, which took place in a sincere and interactive atmosphere, provided a productive discussion environment on the individual and societal dimensions of the love for books.
