The opening of the Science Cafe was held together with the press members
After the meeting, the opening of the Science Cafe hall located in Taşoda Mansion, which aims to bring science together with society, was held. Speaking at the opening of the Science Cafe, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar said in his speech; “We are very pleased to open the Science Cafe with you here today. Opening the doors of this place is not just a beginning for us; it is also an important step for university-society integration. Because every event we will hold here will reach all corners of our city with your support.
One of the most criticized issues in the field of higher education is that universities isolate themselves in their campuses and distance themselves from the public. However, in our age, what is expected from universities is not only to provide education and conduct research but also to contribute to society, think together with society, and produce solutions.
With this understanding, the 3rd Generation University model is now being discussed all over the world. This model represents a university approach that not only produces knowledge but also develops solutions to social problems and is intertwined with society. As Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, we have embraced this understanding for years and strive to establish strong ties with society.
The Science Cafe is a concrete reflection of this approach. Here, our experts will meet with the public in many fields, from oral health to Turkish Language and Literature, from theology to philosophy, from engineering to artificial intelligence, and from environmental and health sciences. For example, artificial intelligence is a topic that is much talked about today but often misunderstood. We aim for our expert academicians to come together with the public in such fields and share information in a simple and understandable language.
There is a special meaning in establishing the Science Cafe in Taşoda Mansion. It is located in the center of our city, in an easily accessible location. At the same time, it is a place that can host sincere conversations accompanied by tea in a warm environment. So here, there will not only be knowledge but also sincerity and conversation.
We are not just opening a place here; we are also opening the door to a new understanding. As a continuation of this initiative, we are also preparing a digital platform. In this news portal supported by artificial intelligence, the conversations, scientific content, and interviews held here will be transferred to the digital environment. Thus, we will reach wider audiences and continue our goal of bringing science together with society in online environments.
I would like to thank each of you, our esteemed press members, academicians, and the public, who are here today. Your interest and support are very valuable to us. We will grow this excitement together. We will keep the Science Cafe alive together.” he said. After the speech, the Science Cafe was officially opened with the ribbon cut together with the press members.
