Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Mechanical Engineering, held a technology-focused event at Askeriye Middle School as part of its mission to contribute to society. University students used their own computers and technical equipment to provide middle school students with experiences related to design, engineering, and new technologies. The VR glasses and 3D printer pens provided by Autodesk attracted great interest at the event. Presentations about VR glasses and 3D printer pens were given to primary and middle school students by Hasan Er, an expert from Autodesk.

“We are training engineers who touch society”

Prof. Dr. Gültekin Basmacı, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who participated in the event, emphasized that socially responsible activities are an important part of their department: Prof. Dr. Gültekin Basmacı: “As the MAKÜ Department of Mechanical Engineering, we not only aim to train good engineers but also individuals who touch society. In the event we held today at Askeriye Middle School, our students came with their own equipment; they gained a sense of responsibility by sharing what they learned in the laboratories with the community here. The interaction of students with technology through Autodesk's VR glasses and 3D printer pens was a significant gain. Seeing this enthusiastic environment makes us proud. Social responsibility is an integral part of our education.” He said.

“Seeing the motto 'From universal knowledge to societal contribution' in the field is gratifying”

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Uyumaz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, expressed that they support such events where students transform their knowledge and skills into societal benefit; “As a faculty, we support our students in using their knowledge and skills for the benefit of society. Today, we are watching with great satisfaction this event that facilitates the introduction of our village school children to technology. Our professors and students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering showed great dedication; they brought their computers, equipment, and most importantly, their hearts to carry out this beautiful work. Seeing our university's motto 'From universal knowledge to societal contribution' in the field is gratifying. I hope such projects will continue to increase.”

Technology support from students to children

Işılsu Karaağa, a Mechanical Engineering student who actively participated in the event, expressed her happiness in being with the students of the village school with these words: “Hello, I am a MAKÜ Mechanical Engineering student. Today, we are having a very enjoyable event with our siblings at the village school. By bringing our own computers, we are trying to show them how design and technology come together. Seeing their excitement also motivates us. Witnessing them open the doors to a brand new world with 3D printer pens and VR glasses is truly a source of pride for us. Being involved in such projects both develops us and reminds us how valuable it is to contribute to society.”

“I sincerely thank the MAKÜ Family”
